Nate has been coaching swimming and participating in swimming for over 15 years now. Nate coaches the Advanced group, Bronze Group, Senior group, and the USA club team. He also coaches Masters swimmers for the Y. During the winter season he helps coach the Cornerstone swim team. He grew up swimming in Indiana at the USA club level and later swam division 1 college swimming for 4 years.
My Coaching strategy and philosophy is based around 4 fundamentals:
- Have fun and enjoy swimming- Swimming is a hard sport, so it’s important to keep it fun, exciting and enjoyable for the kids so they can continue to stay motivated and swim with passion and joy.
- Science based training – Practices and training will be strategically planned ahead of time for specific meets and competitions, so swimmers are peaking their swim performances at the right times during the year and performing at their max performance. Exercise Physiology plays a key role in the design of all practice sessions. This includes training the body for Lactate Threshold tolerance, Increasing Vo2Max, training both fast twitch and slow twitch muscles, mitochondria development, and anaerobic endurance development. To train all these energy systems practices will be designed using a mix of Zone level training sets/workouts (ex: z1-Recovery, z2-Endurance, z3-Tempo, z4-Threshold, z5-Vo2Max, Z6-Anaerobic)
- Character development – Swimming provides kids a great opportunity to foster and build kids character to be successful outside of just swimming. As a coach I aim to develop the kids’ character in areas of respect, honesty, leadership, hard work, discipline and perseverance.
- Stroke Technique – Swimming fast is all about great stroke technique, therefore my practices will focus on drill work and technique training to fine tune all strokes to make swimmers efficient and powerful in all the strokes. Body position will be a big focus. Continually reinforce a good body position throughout practice and stop and correct swimmers who move away from proper alignment.
Harrison has been coaching the Fowler Fins for the last 3 years. Harrison started swimming at a young age through a summer league before advancing to swimming year-round at Swim Atlanta. After a few years of year-round swimming, he decided to add some variety by joining the high school water polo team. During high school, he swam as a Fowler Fin to improve his stroke and endurance while continuing to swim for the Norcross state team.
While in college Harrison continued swimming at the club level, a level below the collegiate team, where he was able to fully enjoy the sport while still competing at other universities across the southeast. Harrison has a great passion for swimming and developing swimmers’ stroke technique and character.
When he’s not on the pool deck you can find him rock climbing or paddle boarding down the river.
Daniel is a current Y swim instructor and swim coach for the Fins. His focus is on teaching Novice swimmers the proper technique for faster and more proficient swimming. He also helps coach his summer swim team during the summer.
Carson is a Junior at GAC and has been swimming with the Fins for 8 years. His focus is on teaching Novice swimmers the proper technique for faster and more proficient swimming. He also helps coach the Spalding Shark swim team during the summer.
